A prison in the south of England with an operating capacity of 690 prisoners is currently being comprehensively renovated as part of a five-year construction work program. Work has already been completed and includes changes in the health sector, a new electrical system, a new visitor complex and the modernisation of the fire protection concept.
AQUASYS developed an optimized fire fighting system for prison cells and common security areas. This system must ensure efficient control of the fires, most of which are self-initiated, in the cells, prevent the spread of fires to neighbouring cells or corridors and, above all, provide reliable protection and safety for personnel and occupants in the event of a fire.
It was also necessary to avoid water damage by using a very small amount of water and to install the system in a simple and space-saving manner.
The nozzle heads and valve units had to be designed to meet the highest safety standards by preventing vandalism or injury of any kind. A ready-to-use pump room in a 10-foot container with a high-pressure pump unit, tank and water supply unit and the control cabinet for monitoring and operating the system, adapted for outdoor and high-security areas, enables installation and commissioning in the shortest possible time.
In close cooperation with our partner, fire tests were also successfully carried out in Austria and England to verify the effectiveness of the system.
The installation and integration of the system was made in close coordination with the British authorities and our local partner. After commissioning and training together with an AQUASYS service technician, the system was handed over to the customer in March 2019 to protect the first of a total of five prison wings.
