Perfect test conditions for automated driving are currently being created at the Magna Powertrain Engineering Center in St. Valentin.
Digitrans is expanding the existing test track into a test center for automated driving. A particular highlight is the outdoor sprinkler system, unique in Europe, which was developed together with the spraying technology expert AQUASYS and is already attracting international interest.
The dedicated expansion of the test track is being driven forward by DigiTrans GmbH: A city zone with cycle paths has been created, traffic lights have been installed, a traffic circle has been built and instead of the previous two lanes, there are now six lanes on the route, which is similar to a highway. In order to be able to test automated driving in bad weather, a 100-metre-long outdoor sprinkler system is also currently being installed, which can map the entire spectrum from drizzle to thunderstorm rain at the touch of a button. This means that the sensors, which are responsible for object recognition in automated vehicles, can be reproducibly tested in complex scenarios with multiple road users and at high speeds.
AQUASYS is providing the technical concept through to pre-assembly in Linz.
We are very pleased about this project, which perfectly demonstrates our spraying technology expertise outside of firefighting and thus also arouses international interest.
